9.9 mega-sale creator briefs in Bangkok, 2026

By Mai Influence

The 9.9 sale is the first of the four mega-sale days that Shopee and Lazada run in Southeast Asia every year, followed by 10.10, 11.11, and 12.12. For a Bangkok SMB, 9.9 is the one that actually rewards a creator push. The category is less saturated than 11.11, the ad-auction floor on Meta is still soft in the first week of September, and Thai shoppers who are budgeting for year-end treat 9.9 as a rehearsal before the big spend in November. Brands that brief creators well for 9.9 usually see the CPM they lock in carry through the next three sale days at a discount.

The problem is that most first-time briefs go out ten days before the sale, which is already too late for a creator to shoot, edit, get approvals, and stagger three posts across the run-up. This post is the working timeline, the deliverable mix, and the paid-boost split we see actually clear on Mai Influence in the 2026 sale season.

Two-week runway or you are ad-only

The minimum viable runway for a 9.9 creator push is 14 days from brief-send to first live post. That gives a Bangkok micro creator roughly three days to counter-offer, four days to shoot, three days for revisions, and four days of the post being live before the sale peaks. Any shorter and you are paying a rush fee of 20 to 40 percent on top of the base rate, and the creator has no time to iterate if the first cut misses.

If it is already inside 14 days when you read this, treat 9.9 as ad-only. Boost the best organic post you already have, save the creator budget for 10.10, and brief the 10.10 push now. This is boring advice and it is the advice that keeps the campaign profitable.

The deliverable mix that clears at 9.9

The mistake we see most often is briefing one flagship Reel and calling it the campaign. One post at 9.9 does not build the shopping intent Thai buyers need. The mix that works is three posts spread across the run-up, each with a distinct job.

  • Teaser Reel, seven to ten days out. Product visible, no price mentioned, the CTA is "save this post". Purpose is to warm the algorithm and seed the pixel.
  • Bundle carousel, three to five days out. This is where the 9.9-specific price lands, alongside the discount stack (voucher plus platform promo plus creator code).
  • Live-day Story sequence, on 9.9 itself. Three to five Story frames the creator posts between 10:00 and 20:00, timed to the platform's sale-day traffic peaks. Each frame links to the Shopee or Lazada product page.

The bundle carousel is the workhorse. Our notes on best post times show carousels between 19:30 and 21:30 on a Bangkok weekday clear 2.1x the reach of the same asset posted at 12:00. Book the creator to publish it Thursday night if 9.9 falls midweek in 2026.

Boost budget: 60 percent goes to the carousel

The boost split we see convert on 9.9 pushes is 20 percent behind the teaser, 60 percent behind the bundle carousel, and 20 percent behind the live-day Story frames. The instinct is to weight the live-day content because it feels closest to the transaction. It underperforms because live-day CPMs on Meta spike as every SMB in SEA piles in on the same auction.

Boosting the bundle carousel three to five days out catches the auction while it is still soft, and the retargeting pool it builds is what makes the live-day Story frames convert without needing their own heavy boost. Our boost budget ratios post breaks down the maths on a 45,000 THB total spend across a micro-tier push.

Rough band for a first 9.9 push with one micro creator, 2026 rates:

  • Creator fee for the three-deliverable brief: 45,000 to 70,000 THB depending on follower tier.
  • Whitelisting or Partnership Ads fee, if you are running the boost from the creator's handle: 5,000 to 12,000 THB flat.
  • Paid boost budget across the three posts: 25,000 to 60,000 THB, split 20/60/20.

Total 9.9 push floor for a Bangkok SMB with one creator: about 75,000 THB. Below that, you are running a Story-only campaign and you should say so out loud.

Attribution: the 24-hour window is a trap

Shopee and Lazada report sales inside their own dashboards on a same-session basis, which flatters the platform's own affiliate tools and undercounts the creator push that seeded the intent three days earlier. The attribution windows we recommend for a 9.9 push are a 7-day click and 1-day view, matched across Meta and the platform's own tracker.

The practical version: put a unique creator code on the bundle carousel, tag the same code in every Story frame, and reconcile total redemptions against the platform's affiliate report the week after the sale. If the platform reports 400 redemptions and Meta claims 240 conversions, the real number is closer to the platform's count. Do not double-count.

What the brief needs to spell out

A 9.9 brief that clears without revisions has six things locked before the creator sees it.

  1. Exact product SKU and shipping status. If the SKU is on backorder as late as 5 September, the creator cannot in good faith push it. Confirm stock at Bangkok fulfilment centres before you send the brief.
  2. Voucher stack in plain numbers. "15 percent off with code THANKS9, stacked with the platform's 200 THB voucher on 800 THB spend" beats "up to 30 percent off". Creators will not do the maths for you in the caption.
  3. Which platform is primary. Shopee and Lazada have different link formats and different affiliate programmes. Brief for one, mention the other. Do not split the creator's attention.
  4. Approval SLA. Two working days per round, one revision round, final approval by day 12 of the runway. Our approval SLA post covers what a Thai creator will accept without a rush surcharge.
  5. Whitelisting permission upfront. If you plan to run Partnership Ads, get the creator's Instagram Business ID in the signed brief, not in a Line message the day before boost goes live.
  6. Post-sale content usage. Whether you can repurpose the bundle carousel for the 10.10 push, and for how long. Cheaper to lock the extension now than to renegotiate on 10 September when the sale is still hot.

What to skip on your first 9.9

Two things a first-time brand should not attempt at 9.9. Skip the celebrity or macro-tier booking, because the fee to boost ratio breaks below 100k budget and macros rarely convert on discount-driven traffic. Skip the live commerce format for the first sale day, because it needs a dedicated production setup that most SMBs cannot stand up in a fortnight.

9.9 rewards the brands that treat it as a warm-up, not a peak. Book the creator two weeks out, weight the boost budget behind the bundle carousel, run the attribution on a 7-day click, and put every voucher number in the brief in Thai baht. The push that clears in September is the one you can repeat, cheaper, on 10 October.
