Chiang Mai vs Bangkok creator rates in 2026
By Mai Influence
Every quarter a Bangkok marketing lead pings us asking whether shooting the next Reel in Chiang Mai actually saves money, or just looks like it does on the quote. The honest answer sits in the middle. Chiang Mai creator fees run roughly 30 to 45 percent lower than the Bangkok equivalent at the same follower tier, but the total campaign cost only lands lower if the brief plays to the north's strengths. Get the brief wrong and you pay Bangkok rates in Chiang Mai plus a plane ticket.
This piece is the working comparison we use when a client asks us to route budget away from Sukhumvit. Numbers are 2026 ranges from our roster and from brands who told us what they paid elsewhere. Everything here layers on top of our honest Bangkok rates guide, so read that first if you want the base card.
The raw rate gap by tier
Chiang Mai's creator supply is smaller and less agency-managed, which pulls asking rates down. Fewer talent managers, fewer exclusivity deals, fewer creators who can quote a rate card from memory. That gap widens at the micro tier and narrows at the top.
- Nano (1k to 10k followers): Bangkok 3,000 to 8,000 THB per deliverable, Chiang Mai 2,000 to 5,500 THB.
- Micro (10k to 50k): Bangkok 8,000 to 22,000 THB, Chiang Mai 5,500 to 13,000 THB.
- Mid (50k to 250k): Bangkok 22,000 to 70,000 THB, Chiang Mai 15,000 to 45,000 THB.
- Macro (250k+): Bangkok 70,000 to 250,000 THB, Chiang Mai 45,000 to 160,000 THB, with a much thinner supply above 500k.
Two caveats. First, Chiang Mai creators with a Bangkok manager quote Bangkok rates. Second, food and hospitality creators in Chiang Mai often quote a paid-post fee that already assumes a comped meal or a hotel stay, and that trade is not always obvious in the first line of the quote. Ask what is bundled.

Where Chiang Mai actually saves money
The saving is real when the visual works with the geography. Coffee culture, craft ateliers, misty mountains at Doi Suthep, elephant sanctuaries in Mae Rim, digital-nomad cafes in Nimmanhaemin, wellness retreats in Mae Rim and Hang Dong, and any product that photographs better against wood and greenery than against glass and concrete. If your creative direction was already going to send a Bangkok crew north for two days of B-roll, hire in Chiang Mai instead and skip the flight. A mid-tier Chiang Mai creator delivering a Reel plus a carousel plus raw files typically lands 18,000 to 32,000 THB all-in, versus 30,000 to 55,000 THB for the Bangkok equivalent booked with the same scope.
The saving compounds when you skip location fees for Bangkok shoots. Chiang Mai cafes and small hotels are still comfortable being tagged for free in exchange for a photo credit, especially outside the December to February peak. That is another 3,000 to 12,000 THB you do not spend on a Bangkok location permit.
Where Bangkok still pays back
Bangkok wins on three things and none of them are negotiable. Retail proximity: if your product sits on shelves at Tops, Central, or 7-Eleven, the creator needs to be within a Grab ride of them. Trend velocity: Bangkok creators are inside the algorithm cycle two to five days earlier for TikTok trends and slightly ahead on Reels audio. Bilingual English fluency: Bangkok has a deeper bench of bilingual Thai-English creators, which matters if the brand is being launched into SEA markets from a Singapore or Kuala Lumpur HQ.
There is also a talent-density point that shows up in the wrap report. If your campaign needs seven creators shooting the same drop in the same week, Bangkok can staff that from a single WhatsApp thread. Chiang Mai can staff it, but the calendar coordination is real work, and the two or three creators who can handle a fashion or beauty spec brief with polished lighting are booked out weeks ahead.
When to run a split city brief
The pattern that keeps working for us is a split brief. Book two Bangkok creators for the retail-adjacent posts and the paid-media whitelist, and book three Chiang Mai creators for the lifestyle B-roll and the wellness angle. Total spend lands 20 to 30 percent below a pure-Bangkok five-creator run, and the assets look less monotonous when they hit the feed.
A Bangkok F&B brand launching a canned cold brew at a major convenience chain paid 145,000 THB for a five-creator week split three Bangkok and two Chiang Mai in early 2026. The equivalent five-Bangkok run they quoted last year came in at 205,000 THB.
Timing matters too. If you are aligning posts to Bangkok evening peak hours, a Chiang Mai creator on the same schedule is fine, since both cities sit in the same time zone. Where they diverge is the shooting window: Chiang Mai golden hour in the cold season starts around 16:30 versus Bangkok's 17:30, so brief the shoot day accordingly.

What to change in the brief before you send it north
Two edits before the first outreach. Move deliverables that need studio lighting or a controlled set to Bangkok, and move deliverables that need environment and mood to Chiang Mai. Then re-price. If you send a Bangkok brief unchanged to a Chiang Mai creator, you get Bangkok quality at a lower fee for one shoot, and then a revision round nobody scoped because the reference deck was full of Iconsiam interiors.
Post the split brief on Mai Influence with two location filters instead of one, and the offers come in already sorted by what each creator can actually shoot. That is the point of running a marketplace instead of a single-city agency retainer.
